Heat Pump Do’s And Don’ts During Summer

Heat pumps provide comfort by transferring warm indoor air to the outside. They’ll most likely see extensive usage during the summer season, so HVAC repair experts share these do’s and don’ts that will help improve heat pump performance.

Do’s

  • Limit the Light: UV light enters your home through the windows. You can limit its entry by blocking windows with curtains and blinds. Alternatively, you can use double-glazed, UV-resistant windows to receive ample natural light minus the heat from the sun.
  • Use Timers: HVAC contractors recommend using timers to reduce uptime and give you comfortable nighttime temperatures. You can also predict your power budget more accurately by having a consistent uptime limit.
  • Set the Right Temperature. A 3- to 5-degree difference can increase the energy consumed by your heat pump every month. Turning down the thermostat settings a few degrees can help you save up to 20% on your monthly utility bills.
  • Check your Filters Regularly: These filters remove particles from the air and prevent heat pump damage. They must be cleaned or replaced regularly — typically every one to three months, depending on your environment. As your filter gets older, dirt and debris will clog it, affecting the airflow and your utility bills.

Don’ts

  • Don’t Consistently Crank Up your Heat Pump: Keep it at the recommended level to ensure your comfort and reduce your heat pump’s energy consumption.
  • Don’t Use the Auto Mode: Using this will cause your heat pump to toggle unnecessarily between heating and cooling. To ensure your unit’s efficiency, set it to “HEAT” in winter and “COOL” in summer.
  • Don’t Select the Lowest Fan Speeds: Heat pumps work best at higher fan speeds.
  • Don’t Skip Maintenance: Give your heat pump the care it needs to prolong its life span and maintain its efficiency.

Customer Testimonials

Our clients love the energy solutions we provide!

Nick is very well educated on the products industry. He has been in the industry for years now and knows more than anyone else I have spoken to. Its very refreshing to have the owner of the company come out to talk to you about your options compared to a door to door sales guy who cant even answer the most basic questions. Im very happy with the service and attention to detail.
